What you need to know about the UKCA mark

Brexit is bringing in new changes for the construction industry across the UK. We all have a responsibility to maintain compliance and continue to build better buildings and homes.

We wanted to highlight an upcoming compliance for 2022 – to apply the new UK Conformity Assessed (UKCA) product safety marking. This replaces EU safety labelling system – for example the CE marking that you will be familiar with. This change was supposed to have taken place on the 1st January 2022. But the UK Government, acknowledging the impact of the pandemic and other pressures on businesses, announced in August 2022 that the deadline for compliance will be moved to 1st January 2023

This new marking “allows the UK to have control over its goods regulations, maintaining the high product safety standards expected in the UK,” the UK Government says.

As a SWPA Appointed Company, it is your responsibility that you continue to provide high levels of quality and compliance to our public sector partners. We encourage you to address this as soon as possible.  As the deadline nears, the sector will likely see longer lead times on products and potential disruption to projects.

More information can be found on the Government website and our Technical Support Manager, Kaye Wills, is on hand to support you as much as possible.
