Compliance and Land Management

The South West Procurement Alliance (SWPA) extend a warm welcome to the Kovia Group, for their appointment on the newly launched Asset Safety and Compliance Framework (ASC1), where Kovia Compliance features on the Asbestos Consultancy workstream.

The Asset Safety and Compliance Framework has been developed following ongoing engagement and consultation with public sector organisations including housing associations, local authorities, and healthcare facilities. The framework boasts a suite of asset safety and compliance disciplines providing a method to meet government guidelines regarding life safety, property protection and maintenance.

This impressive framework enables access to a pool of consultancy and compliance-related expertise through a single framework, including consultancy and surveying specialists for the management and removal of asbestos and access to expertise in property protection, water management, gas safety and heating servicing, asbestos, and electrical testing.

The Kovia Group was founded in 2013 to create an industry-leading environmental consultancy. Their continued growth has led them to expand, both in expertise and geographical coverage, creating an exciting evolution into a multi-disciplinary organisation that offers the complete range of consultancy and contractual services to clients across the UK.

Kovia Compliance is well-placed to deliver a high-quality contaminated land assessment, advice and knowledge sharing and includes staff with experience undertaking hundreds of projects in the South West and across the UK. Staff at Kovia have undertaken multiple land management projects for clients such as Homes England, Cornwall Council, Plymouth City Council and Defence Estates.  In terms of providing knowledge sharing related to environmental and contaminated land projects, staff at Kovia have designed and provided courses to environmental consultancies on detailed groundwater quality risk assessment, human health risk assessment and the definition of site-specific soil trigger thresholds, sustainable business practice and sustainable remediation methodologies.

An impressive example of Kovia’s land management can be seen at a site in Broadstairs in Kent. The project included the assessment of ground conditions, asbestos management, and contaminated land, working with a major modular home builder. The former vacant site in Kent is being developed with c.250 modular homes (MMC). Asbestos and other potentially deleterious materials were suspected across the surface of the soils. Kovia provided contaminated land advice comprising of site investigations (Phase 1, 2 and 3) with remediation advice, hand picking, clearance and watching briefs, along with validation to assure the soils did not present a risk and were fit for purpose. A validation report was provided to a housing association when the homes were transferred.
