Access Theatre Company - SWPA’s Community Benefit Fund

SWPA’s Community Benefit Fund, delivered in partnership with South West Community Matters, has been running since 2018. The fund is designed to support small community groups, with grants of up to £1000.00, who might otherwise fall under the radar of larger funders. We have delivered £50,000.00 of funding to over thirty-five regional groups.

Penny from SWPA was delighted to have the opportunity to visit one of the groups, Access Theatre Company, based in Launceston, Cornwall.

Access Theatre Company, a registered charity, is an inclusive theatre company for adults with learning disabilities, their carers and volunteers. They successfully applied for a grant of £1000 through the SWPA Community Benefit Fund, allowing them to employ a “creative enabler” in the run-up to their Christmas performance. It was wonderful to meet with the group, join in with some of their activities and get a special “behind the scenes” viewing of their rehearsals for the Christmas show.

During the visit, Access Theatre Company allowed SWPA and South West Community Matters to interview some of the staff and actors, which we have made into a video showcase.
